So earlier today Top Stories directed me to a post from September, I didn't think too much of it until now, a VehiCROSS article from March popped up in there. When we first got the top stories sidebar I liked it because it highlighted active discussions of the past couple of days... But 7 month old articles? SRSLY? The VehiCROSS is pretty sweet, but... That article is from March bro.

Yesterday I finally realized that once you're reading a post by an author, posts that were recommended by the user show up in the sidebar. Now I'll act all self-conscious about promoting stuff. :D

It makes me wonder if its working on some algorithm that includes search terms or google bot hits. It seems like the articles that pop up from man moons ago are things that have easily searched words and content that aren't oppo-specific, things that either new users would find from a google search, or things that google bots would rack hits up on while they crawl the web for content.

haha yeah, I found that out about yesterday too. Good to know that recommending things is worth something now!

You make a good point. It's possible for sure.
My thought was perhaps if I go recommending 6 month old articles it'll bring them back into top stories.
It'd be nice to know what really does it! Haha.

It also shines a light on one's perpetual clicking habits, be that NSFW or stange rage. :D
But yeah, it finally provides a function and not just a counter.

lol, I am going to only recommend NSFW posts from now on, so that the top stories list becomes a wall of porn whenever you visit something I posted.
